Zaiyu Hasegawa, the chef behind the Best Restaurant in Japan (Asia 50 Best Restaurants 2018), joins Daniel Jarrett in a unique, five-course dinner with matching wines at Jarrett’s stunning restaurant, The Tamarind.
Hasegawa’s two Michelin-starred restaurant, Den, won second place in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2018, and also took out the inaugural 2017 Art of Hospitality Award in acknowledgement of Hasegawa’s playful, modern style. Hasegawa’s cooking is a creative spin on Japanese multi-course haute cuisine, known as kaiseki.
Collaborating with Hasegawa is the classically-trained Jarrett. The pair will collaborate to create an exciting special five-course menu that will see the best expressions of their talents come together for an unforgettable dining experience.
Jarrett said that “The menu will be on the hero ingredients; seafood from Walkers Seafood, seasonal-only local fruits and vegetables, as well as poultry and meat. We are covering land and sea, and trying to keep it all hyper-local”.

Tokyo-born Chef Zaiyu Hasegawa created a culinary buzz in Tokyo with his two Michelin-starred restaurant Jimbocho Den, giving Japanese fine dining a quirky, playful and highly skilful name.
His inspiration in Japanese cuisine and fine-dining started at a young age, watching his geisha mother entertain customers in a traditional high-end Japanese restaurant. However, Hasegawa moved away from the traditional Japanese degustation, kaiseki, forming his own style. His unique interpretation is to ‘talk’ to his diners through his cooking, and this has evolved into an edible fun-filled mimicry that is contrary to the high art of kaiseki.
Since opening Jimocho Den in 2007, Hasegawa has received two Michelin Stars, and in 2018, it ranked no. 14 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list.
Chef Daniel Jarrett has 18 years of experience and has won a host of awards. Classically-trained, Daniel’s finesse in the kitchen has seen him receive a number of awards including one Chef Hat in the 2018 Australian Good Food Guide awards.
Jarrett was only introduced to Asian cooking when he joined The Tamarind, but he quickly and intuitively took to it – and he has, astoundingly, been self-taught since then. His natural skill and flair for Asian cuisine have seen him win numerous awards, and has made The Tamarind one of the most recognised restaurants on the Sunshine Coast.
